We Make Our Own Light by Elle Pervez - This painting is about the light we each carry without knowing it. Out in the desert at night, the sky is so dark and clear that the moon and stars feel close enough to touch. But the moon only borrows its glow from the sun. We don’t need to. Our bodies give off a faint light of their own, about a thousand times too dim for our eyes to catch, and even the warm sand gives its heat back to the dark long after sunset. I painted a quiet desert landscape under a moon, then added a glowing LED over the top, because it felt right to let the painting make its own light too. A small reminder that we don’t need to wait for light to find us. We make our own.
